The Story of Copper Clay

Our gorgeous Copper Clay pottery collection features a glossy burnt sienna glaze. This earthy glaze is reminiscent of the red clay soil found in Central Virginia.

Care

Dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe up to 450°F. Avoid sudden temperature changes.

Hand-painted designs hold their color for decades with normal use. For deep tea or coffee stains, a paste of baking soda and water will lift them without scratching the glaze.

    I broke a Classic mug in red poppy, and they were out if stock, so I decided to try the Signature mug. It is capacious, and is very sturdily built. I normally have my afternoon tea in Emerson mugs, but this one begs to be used for hot chocolate in front of the fire, and a New England winter will suit it well.

    I absolutely love these mugs! I started out with a Brookline mug, but received a signature mug as a gift and I quickly fell in love. I love both styles, but this has become the front runner. The feel of these mugs in my hands and the weight of it is perfect for what I was looking for. I have 1 in almost every pattern and they bring me joy as I sip my tea!     This mug was bigger than I expected and I actually really like that! Because of the size, there’s a lot of things this can be used for. Some things I’ve used mine for is making an ice cream sundae and because the opening is wide it was perfect to top it off with a swirl of whipped cream. I’ve also used it to fill with some snacks when I need a little something to eat and it happens to be the perfect portion for snacking, so this mug is definitely more versatile than just using it for drinks and I’m so happy with my purchase!

    I had purchased some of these mugs a few years back and love the mugs. This last order however the glaze color is a little different. I expected some variation but not quite this much. The glaze is a more matted color than the originals.

    Bottom is rough and scratches table tops. Inside at the attachments to the handle is indented making it difficult to clean. One indentation is quite deep and I’m unable to clean thoroughly.

Our artisans smooth the foot of each product before shipping, however some customers find that using very fine grit sandpaper helps smooth it even more. (The unglazed foot will also wear down to a smoother surface with regular use.) To clean the indentation, we have found that using a flexible sponge with a “rough” side works best.
